Sometimes your greatest opponent is simply the version of you that prefers being understood to being changed.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

There is a version of you that mainly wants to be seen as reasonable. It can describe every problem accurately, explain the causes, and win any conversation about why things are as they are, and none of that requires anything to change. Being understood provides real relief, which is why it can quietly replace the work. Sympathy becomes the destination instead of a stop on the way.

Notice when telling the story feels like progress. Ask yourself whether you want agreement or movement, and be honest if the answer is agreement today. Then choose one action that would be true whether or not anyone understood.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where do you want to be understood more than you want to change?
