Discipline is choosing a difficult hour over a difficult future.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Every hard hour you decline has to be paid for somewhere, usually by a future that is harder in a slower and less obvious way. The uncomfortable conversation avoided becomes years of a difficult relationship. The unlearned skill becomes a decade of limited options. The choice is rarely between difficulty and ease; it is between difficulty now and difficulty spread out.

When you are avoiding something, ask what the avoidance will cost over the next five years rather than the next five minutes. Make the comparison explicit, because your mind will not do it on its own. Then choose the version of hard that ends.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which hard hour are you avoiding that would spare you a hard year?
