Understanding your own success usually lags behind it. The work happened over years, in decisions that felt ordinary at the time, and the account you give at the podium is assembled afterwards out of whatever seems to fit. So a person can be genuinely honoured and genuinely unsure which parts mattered, which is an honest position rather than false modesty.
If something has gone well for you, spend an hour working out what actually caused it rather than what sounds good. Ask a couple of people who were there. Their version will contain things you were too close to notice.
