A library card gives curiosity a larger budget than most wallets can.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Curiosity is usually limited by money rather than by interest. A library removes that limit for a while: you can follow a question that turns out to be a dead end, abandon a book after twenty pages, and try a subject you have no business trying, none of which you would risk if each attempt cost you real money. Being able to be wrong cheaply is what makes exploring possible.

Use the wasteful part of it deliberately. Borrow three things you are unsure about rather than one you are certain of, and let two of them fail without treating that as a loss.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you explore if cost stopped deciding for you?
