A photograph of a doorway can preserve an entrance that no longer welcomes the photographer.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Places can stay in your possession as images while ceasing to be yours in fact. A photograph of a door holds a house you could once walk into, and the picture does not change when the people behind it move, die, or stop wanting you there. That is why old photographs of ordinary buildings can be so difficult; the image is intact and the welcome is not.
If you have pictures like that, you may keep them without deciding what they mean yet. Look at them when you choose to rather than by accident, and let them be a record rather than a question you owe an answer to.
