The dedication names someone whose contribution may never appear in the chapters.
GRATITUDE

A book carries two kinds of debt and only one of them shows up in the text. The research appears in the pages while the person who made years of writing possible appears in a single line at the front, if at all. Support of that sort is structural rather than intellectual. It holds the whole thing up and leaves no trace inside it.
Think about who does that for your work and say so where it can be heard. Not a private thanks but a named one, in front of people who assume you managed alone. And read the dedications you usually skip.
Who made your work possible without appearing anywhere inside it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
