The person living alone may need a witness to good news more than advice about company.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Good news that nobody hears sits oddly, and that is a separate problem from loneliness. Someone who lives by themselves may be perfectly content and still have nowhere to put the small triumph of a good result or a plant that flowered. The need is for a witness rather than for company, and being told to get out more answers a question they did not ask.

If you know somebody who lives alone, be the person their small news goes to and receive it properly. Ask what went well this week and let the answer be minor. That is a more useful offer than a suggestion about socialising.
