A vendor who knows when to stop selling can let a person enjoy choosing.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Pressure at the wrong moment takes the pleasure out of buying something. Once a customer is genuinely interested, more persuasion only crowds the part they were enjoying, which is the looking, the comparing and the deciding for themselves. Knowing when to go quiet is a real skill. Restraint often keeps what insistence would have lost.

If you sell or persuade anything, notice the moment somebody starts deciding and stop adding to it. Answer questions and let the silence work. The same applies to advice offered to friends who have already begun working out what they want.
