The last stop belongs to the driver differently from the passenger relieved to arrive.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Arrival means opposite things at the two ends of the same journey. For the passenger it is release, the journey over, the day continuing elsewhere, while for the driver it is a turnaround, a check of the mirrors, a few minutes before doing it all again in the other direction. One person is finishing. The other is at the halfway mark of a shift.

When you reach the end of something, spare a thought for whoever is still in the middle of it. Say thank you at the door. Recognising that your ending is somebody’s ordinary Tuesday costs nothing and is felt.
