The virtue of justice consists in moderation, as regulated by wisdom.

LEADERSHIP
Fairness is mostly a question of proportion. The wrong is real, the response is deserved, and the only remaining question is how much, which is where most people either go too far or do nothing. Judgement is what sets the amount, and it cannot be worked out from the rule alone, since the same offence means different things in different circumstances. Justice without measure stops being justice and becomes something else with a good excuse.
Where you have been wronged, decide in advance what a proportionate response looks like. Then hold to that rather than to how you feel on the day.
Where has your sense of fairness tipped into something harsher?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
