Do not ask if a man has been through college; ask if a college has been through him; if he is a walking university.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Attendance and education are different things. Sitting somewhere for four years leaves a credential, while being changed by what you met there leaves a different kind of person, and the two do not reliably go together in either direction. Plenty of people have the paper and were never touched by it, and plenty who never went are thoroughly educated. The credential is evidence of exposure, nothing more.

When you assess somebody, including yourself, ask what they have actually understood rather than where they were. A good question is what they have changed their mind about, and why.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which part of your education changed how you actually think?
