Minds of moderate calibre ordinarily condemn everything which is beyond their range.

CREATIVITY
When something is beyond what a person can follow, the comfortable response is to declare it worthless. That saves the trouble of admitting the gap, and it sounds like discernment rather than what it is. You can hear it in the confident dismissal of a whole field by someone who has not spent an hour in it. The tell is always that the judgement came before the effort.
Watch your own dismissals for that signature. When you find yourself calling something overrated or pretentious, ask how much of it you have actually looked at, and be willing to say you do not understand it yet instead.
What have you dismissed because you never understood it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
