If the power to do hard work is not talent, it is the best possible substitute for it.

— James A. Garfield

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The ability to keep working when the work stops being interesting will carry you past most naturally gifted people, because gift alone tends to quit when things get dull. Nobody calls stamina a talent, though it behaves exactly like one: it is uneven across people, it compounds, and it produces results others cannot match. If you were not handed brilliance, you were probably handed something serviceable instead.

Stop measuring yourself against whoever finds your work easy. Set an hour a day on the thing that matters most and meet it whether or not you feel capable, for a fortnight, then look at what accumulated.
