If I were asked what book is better than a cheap book, I should answer that there is one book better than a cheap book,—and that is a book honestly come by.

How you got a thing is part of what the thing is. A bargain obtained by a small dishonesty, a favour taken from someone who could not refuse, an idea used without credit: the object may be identical, but you own it differently, and you know it every time you look at it. Cheapness is easy to measure and provenance is not, which is why provenance gets quietly ignored.
Check one recent gain for how it was come by, and be specific rather than general. If the answer is uncomfortable, make the correction now, while it is still small enough to be a note or a payment.
What did you get cheaply that you would rather have earned?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
