Young authors give their brains much exercise and little food.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Producing constantly without taking anything in leaves a person working from an ever thinner supply. Output is enjoyable and visible and feels like progress, while the slow refilling, the reading and looking and listening, has nothing to show for it and gets dropped first. After a while the work starts repeating itself and nobody can say why. The exercise was never the problem, the shortage of food was.

Weigh your ratio this month between making and taking in. Give yourself a stretch of pure input with nothing expected from it, and expect the work to improve afterwards rather than during.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where are you producing more than you are taking in?
