A laugh is worth a hundred groans in any market.

— Charles Lamb

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Complaint feels like it is doing something, and mostly it is not. A laugh at the same trouble costs less, spreads further, and leaves the people around you more able to keep going. The trouble itself is unchanged either way, so the question is what you want to add to it.

When something goes wrong this week, try finding the absurd angle before the grievance. Not to pretend it is fine, but to keep the weight proportionate. Watch what happens in the room when you do.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who makes you laugh when the day has gone badly?
