The universe is change; our life is what our thoughts make it.

— Marcus Aurelius

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Events are neutral until something is said about them, and the saying happens inside you. Two people in the same week, with the same news, live very different weeks depending on what they tell themselves it means. Circumstances still matter; a large share of your experience is nonetheless assembled rather than received.

Catch the sentence you are repeating about your current situation and write it down exactly. Then write a second version that is equally true and less punishing. Use that one for a week and see whether anything about the days changes.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which thought do you repeat until it becomes your day?
