A man will turn over half a library to make one book.

— Samuel Johnson

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Anything worth making rests on a mass of material that never shows up in the finished thing. The reading and the false starts are not waste; they are what let you choose well among the few pieces that survive. Seen from outside, the result looks like it arrived whole. Seen from inside, it is mostly discarded ground.

If your output feels thin compared with the effort behind it, that ratio is normal rather than a sign of failure. Keep a note of what you consumed this month alongside what you produced. The gap will look less like laziness once you see it written down.
