The manner of an ending carries less weight than the years leading up to it, though it is the ending we tend to rehearse and dread. Most of a life is made of ordinary days, and those are what accumulate into whatever the life turns out to be. Worrying about the last chapter takes attention away from the ones still being written. There is a kind of relief in that, if you let it be one.

Rather than planning how you would want to be remembered, look at what this week has consisted of. Change one ordinary recurring thing that you would not want repeated a thousand times.
