Knowledge is of two kinds: we know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information upon it.

CREATIVITY
Holding something in your head and knowing exactly where to find it are both real forms of knowing, and confusing them makes people feel more ignorant than they are. Nobody carries a field in memory. What experts mostly have is a good map: which source is reliable, which question to ask, who to call. Building the map is quicker than memorising the territory and it lasts longer.
For the area you feel shakiest in, spend a little time working out where the good answers live rather than trying to absorb them. Write down three sources and one person. That is a working knowledge you can use tomorrow.
