Pride is a vice, which pride itself inclines every man to find in others, and to overlook in himself.

REFLECTION
Pride is unusually good at hiding from the person who has it. The same sensitivity that makes you quick to spot arrogance in someone else is the thing keeping you from seeing your own, because it is busy defending your standing rather than examining it. That is why the people most irritated by vanity are often carrying a full share of it. The detection and the concealment run on the same equipment.
When someone strikes you as full of themselves this week, pause on the strength of your reaction. Ask what it is protecting. Irritation that size is usually pointing somewhere closer to home.
Where does your own pride look like high standards to you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
