Let not the enjoyment of pleasures now within your grasp be carried to such excess as to incapacitate you from future repetition.

RESILIENCE
Overdoing a pleasure is the surest way to lose it. Excess burns through the capacity that made the thing enjoyable in the first place, whether that is a taste, a body, a friendship or a hobby, and what comes back afterwards is never quite the same. Restraint here is not moralism; it is arithmetic about how many more times you would like this to be good. The greedy version costs you the repeats.
With whatever you most enjoy, stop slightly before you want to this week. Leave the last of it. See whether the next occasion is better for having been left room.
Which pleasure do you overdo until it stops being one?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
