There is nothing so easy but that it becomes difficult when you do it with reluctance.

— Terence

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Reluctance adds weight to tasks that have almost none of their own. The form takes four minutes and has cost you three weeks, because every day it is carried, put down and postponed, and the thinking is now far larger than the work. Difficulty here is manufactured by the delay rather than found in the task.

List the things you have been dragging that would each take under fifteen minutes. Do them all in one sitting, badly if necessary, without letting yourself consider them first. The relief is out of all proportion to the effort, which is the clearest sign of how much was reluctance rather than difficulty.
