Sweet mercy is nobility’s true badge.

— William Shakespeare

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The mark of real standing is what someone does when they could do otherwise. Anyone can be decent when it is required of them; the test comes when you hold every card, when nobody would criticise you for pressing your advantage, and you choose not to. That choice tells people more about you than any list of achievements, because it is the moment your character is unsupervised.

Look for the situation this week where you have the upper hand and could use it without consequence. Do less than you are entitled to do. Say so to nobody, and notice how it changes what the other person expects of you.
