Begin at once to live and count each separate day as a separate life.

— Seneca

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Treating a day as a complete unit changes how you handle it. If today is the whole thing, there is no later to defer to, and no yesterday still hanging over it; each morning becomes a clean start rather than the continuation of an ongoing verdict. That second half is the mercy in it, and the part most people miss.

Try closing a day deliberately tonight, the way you would close a book. Name what it contained, let it end, and let tomorrow begin without inheriting today’s mood.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

If today were complete in itself, what would you change?
