Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody else has thought.

REFLECTION
Most discoveries are not made in unexplored places; the material was in plain view and everybody had learned to stop asking about it. Familiarity does the hiding. A thing you see daily stops registering as something that could be questioned. The work is less about access than about being willing to ask a slightly stupid question in front of people who consider the matter settled.
Choose something in your field that everyone accepts without explanation. Ask why it is done that way, and follow the answer past the first person who tells you that is simply how it works.
What do you notice at work that nobody else mentions?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
