I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.

— Lao Tzu

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Three qualities, and none of them is cleverness. Simplicity strips away what you were carrying for no reason. Patience keeps you present for things that will not be hurried, which is most things worth having. Compassion decides how you treat whoever is in front of you, including yourself on a bad day. What they share is that none can be acquired quickly or displayed convincingly without being real.

Pick whichever of the three you are worst at and give it a week. Watch where it fails and what it costs you to hold, rather than trying to improve all three at once.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH
