In all things of nature there is something of the marvellous.

— Aristotle

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Nothing in the natural world is truly dull once you look closely enough. A beetle, a patch of moss or the grain in a piece of wood each holds a structure more intricate than anything people have designed, and the sense of boredom usually comes from glancing rather than from the thing itself. Wonder is less a mood you have to wait for than a result of attention.

Pick something natural you pass every day without seeing, a tree, a bird, the sky at a particular hour, and give it a few unhurried minutes. Look for one detail you have never registered before.
