Blessed is he who has found his work let him ask no other blessedness.

— Thomas Carlyle

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Finding work that fits you, work you can give yourself to fully, is a kind of good fortune that can make up for much else. It gives days a centre, gives effort a direction, and turns ordinary tiredness into something closer to satisfaction. The advice to ask for nothing more is a strong one, and you may reasonably want love and rest as well.

Whether or not you have found such work, notice which tasks leave you absorbed rather than drained. Those are clues, even if they are small or unpaid. Give them a little more room this week, and see whether they point somewhere.
