The only medicine for suffering, crime, and all the other woes of mankind, is wisdom.

— Thomas Huxley

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Force can stop a thing happening today and change nothing about why it happened. Rules, punishment and pressure all work on behaviour at the surface, while what sits underneath is how people understand themselves and each other. That understanding is slow to build and impossible to impose, which is why it so often loses out to faster remedies that do not last.

You will not fix the world’s share of this. You can ask, about a situation that keeps repeating around you, whether you have been managing the symptom. One honest look at the cause is worth more than another round of the same correction.
