Climb because the view interests you, not because somebody is watching from below.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

An audience changes what you climb toward. When you are performing the ascent, you start choosing the routes that look impressive rather than the ones that lead somewhere you actually want to be, and you keep going long after the interest has drained out. Climbing for the view means the reward arrives whether or not anyone is watching, which is the only arrangement that lasts.

Ask what you would still be working on if you could never mention it to anyone. That question tends to sort your projects fast. Keep at least one thing in your life that passes it, and let the rest be judged more honestly against it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Would you still want this goal if nobody ever heard about it?
