A crust eaten in peace is better than a banquet partaken in anxiety.

— Aesop

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Conditions around a thing decide how much of it you actually receive. A modest meal eaten calmly nourishes more than an elaborate one taken in dread, because anxiety removes the good from whatever it accompanies. Said carelessly, that can sound like an argument for accepting less, which it is not. It concerns what surrounds the plate rather than what is on it.

Where you have a choice between more and calmer, notice that the calmer option is not the lesser one. And where there is no such choice, the point still holds: protect whatever quiet hour you can get, because the peace is doing real work.
