To make your children capable of honesty is the beginning of education.

— John Ruskin

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Capability is the word to notice. Honesty is not only a rule you impose, it is something a person has to be able to afford, and a child punished hardest for the truth learns very quickly to become a good liar. Making somebody capable of it means building conditions where telling you the real thing is survivable.

So look at what happens in your house or your team once bad news arrives. If the first response is anger, you are training concealment whatever your stated values are. Receive one piece of unwelcome honesty calmly this week, and watch how much more you get told afterwards.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

How did you learn that telling the truth was safe?
