There is more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophy.

— Friedrich Nietzsche

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Your body keeps a record your reasoning has no access to. The dread before a certain meeting, the shoulders that drop at a particular name, the tiredness that arrives on Sunday evening rather than Monday morning: these are conclusions reached without any argument. They are not always right, but they are rarely random, and thinking harder will not surface them.

When your reasons and your gut disagree, treat it as information rather than a fault to be corrected. Ask what your body seems to already know, and check whether your careful explanation was built to make that knowledge easier to ignore.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did your gut know something before your reasoning caught up?
