The knowledge of God is very far from the love of Him.

— Blaise Pascal

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Knowing about something and loving it are separated by a long distance, and information does not close it. You can hold an accurate and detailed account of a subject, a place or a person and feel nothing whatever toward them, because affection comes from contact rather than description. The observation is aimed at religion and holds well beyond it.

Which suggests a check when something has gone cold. Are you dealing with the actual thing, or with your knowledge of it? More study rarely restores warmth. Presence, practice and ordinary contact sometimes do.
