You don’t have to correct every assumption; some mistakes work in your favor.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

You do not owe an accurate impression to everyone who forms one. Some misunderstandings are harmless, some are useful, and the effort of correcting them all is enormous and largely wasted on people who are not paying much attention anyway. Choosing which to address is a skill. The default of correcting everything is exhausting and gains you very little.

Before setting the record straight, ask whether the misunderstanding actually costs you anything. Correct the ones that affect your relationships, your reputation where it matters, or your safety. Let the rest stand, and notice how much energy comes back.
