Beauty itself is but the sensible image of the Infinite.

— Francis Bacon

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Certain experiences seem to point past themselves. A piece of music, a landscape, a face can produce the sense of something larger without supplying any information about what that larger thing is, and people fill in the blank according to what they already hold. The reaching is common ground even where the conclusions are not.

You do not have to settle the question to take the experience seriously. Notice what reliably opens that feeling in you and arrange to stand in front of it more often. Whatever you decide it means, a life with more of those moments in it is a better one to be inside.
