STILLNESS
Under enough pressure, rules that were supposed to be permanent get suspended, and the suspension is always described as temporary. That is an observation about how emergencies work rather than an endorsement: whatever protections exist are least available exactly when they are most needed, because the same crisis that endangers people becomes the argument for setting them aside. Anyone who has lived through one knows how quickly the ordinary rules stop applying.
The small version happens too, in a family crisis or a company in trouble, when the usual standards of how people are treated go quiet. Notice when that is happening around you. The measure of a standard is whether it survives the situation that tests it.
When do your own rules quietly disappear because you feel attacked?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
