Prepare while consequences are still theoretical.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Consequences that are still hypothetical are cheap to work with. Once they arrive, every option costs more and you have less room to choose between them. The window where preparation is easy is exactly the window where it feels unnecessary, which is why most people spend it on something else.

Look for one place in your life where the risk is currently abstract: a skill you would need if the job ended, a conversation you would need if the illness got worse, money you would need if the car died. Do one hour of work on it while nothing is burning. The hour is worth far more now than it will be later.
