Have the courage to be ignorant of a great number of things, in order to avoid the calamity of being ignorant of everything.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Attention is finite, and spread evenly over everything it leaves you a thin film of knowing and no depth anywhere. Choosing what to skip takes nerve, because something in you always worries you should be keeping up. But keeping up with all of it is the surest way to understand none of it. Deciding not to follow something is a decision in favor of whatever you follow instead.

Name two or three subjects you have been half tracking out of obligation. Let them go for now, without apology and without a plan to catch up later. Spend the reclaimed hours going properly deep on one thing you care about.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What could you stop trying to keep up with?
