You may either win your peace or buy it: win it, by resistance to evil; buy it, by compromise with evil.

STILLNESS
Peace comes in two kinds, paid for differently. One kind you earn by standing against something you believe is wrong and living with the friction that follows. The other you get by going along with it, and the cost is drawn slowly from the part of you that knew better. Both look like calm from outside; only one of them holds.
When you next feel relief at letting something pass, check what the relief is made of. If it is the relief of having settled the matter, keep it. If it is the relief of not having to say the thing, say the thing, in the smallest honest way.
Is your current calm earned or paid for by looking away?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
