Where you come from isn’t a weakness to cover up. It’s a perspective the room is probably missing.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Rooms go homogeneous quickly, and most people in them have seen roughly the same things. Coming from somewhere else means you notice what they cannot: the assumption nobody questions, the group being left out, the thing that will not work in practice. Hiding your background to blend in removes the one contribution nobody else can make. Fitting in and being valuable are not the same objective.

Say the thing your experience tells you, even when it does not match the room. Say it plainly and without apology. Seeing differently is a position rather than a deficit.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Do you hide where you come from in new rooms?
