Sometimes you win by refusing to participate in the game someone designed for you to lose.

LEADERSHIP
Some situations are constructed so that any participation is a loss: the argument with fixed rules, the comparison you cannot win, the contest where the terms were set by someone else. Playing better inside that structure does not help. The only strong move is to decline the frame entirely, which usually looks like refusing rather than winning.
When you keep losing at something, examine whether the game itself is fair before improving your technique. Ask who set the terms and what they gain from your participation. Not playing is a legitimate move and often the only good one.
