A coach who yells tells you what you did wrong. A coach who teaches tells you how to fix it.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Volume is not instruction. Somebody shouting about a missed block has told you what you already knew, and the shouting mostly gets the frustration out of their own system. Teaching costs more. It means the person has to actually know what went wrong and be able to describe the fix in words you can use at practice tomorrow.

Notice which kind you are getting, and ask for the other kind when you can. One question does it: what should I do differently next time. Use the same question when you are the one correcting somebody.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which coach told you how to fix it, not just what broke?
