Someone probably still remembers a nice thing you said years ago that you forgot you ever said.

Kindness has a strange asymmetry to it. Whoever says the offhand encouraging thing forgets it by dinner, while the person who received it on a bad day can repeat it word for word a decade later. You are carrying a few of those from other people right now, and you are almost certainly inside somebody else’s collection without knowing.

Since the cost is low and the storage lasts that long, spend more of them. Tell the person their cover was good, that the drawing is strange in a great way, that you noticed they showed up. You will forget it. They might not.
