Taste isn’t magic. It’s trained by noticing what moves you and asking why.

Taste looks like a gift because you only ever meet it fully formed in other people. Underneath it is a long habit of noticing your own reactions and refusing to leave them vague. Something makes the back of your neck go cold, and instead of moving on you stop and work out what did it, the pause before the line, the color underneath, the fact that nothing was explained.
Next time something hits you, write one sentence naming exactly what caused it. Do it with things you dislike too. Those are usually easier to see clearly.
Why exactly does your favorite song or film move you?
