Prayer isn’t placing an order. It’s pulling up a chair.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Treating prayer as a request form makes the whole thing transactional, and it quietly turns God into a service you rate by outcomes. Pulling up a chair is a different posture. You are there for the company as much as the answer, and much of what happens is a change in you while you sit.

Try one prayer this week where you request nothing at all. Say what your day was actually like and then stay a minute longer. Notice how different it feels to be with someone rather than to be waiting on a delivery.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Do your prayers sound more like requests or company?
