Your camera roll has four thousand photos and you remember maybe nine of those days.

Capturing something is not the same as keeping it. A photo taken while you were busy composing it stores an image without storing the day, which is how you end up with thousands of files and a handful of real memories. The recording competes with the experience. Whatever you were doing while framing the shot is mostly gone.
At the next thing worth remembering, take one photo in the first five minutes and then put the phone away. Spend the rest of it looking with your own eyes. Check later whether you remember more of that than of the last event you documented thoroughly.
Which nine days of your year would you actually keep?
