You watch trailers for movies you never see. Don’t live your life that way.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Previews are built to give you the feeling of the thing without the thing. Two minutes, all the best parts, no sitting through the slow middle. Plenty of life runs the same way now: the playlist you made for the run you never took, the draft message, the sport you watched highlights of all season. The feeling arrives, the doing never does.

Look for the one thing you have been previewing. Then find the smallest real version and do it this week, badly. Ten minutes of the actual thing beats another hour of the trailer, and it is usually less impressive and more satisfying than you expected.
