There’s a kid somewhere copying the way you shoot, talk or dress. That’s a responsibility wrapped in a compliment.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being watched happens whether or not you signed up for it. Somebody younger has decided you are worth studying, and they are copying the parts you do not think about: how you talk to people who cannot do anything for you, how you react when it goes badly. The flattering part and the demanding part are the same fact.

You do not need to become a role model, which is exhausting. Just pick one thing you would not want copied and drop it. And when you notice the kid watching, say something to them directly, because being noticed back is a big day when you are twelve.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who younger than you is quietly copying how you act?
